Hand Scaling and Polishing Procedure

When cleaning your teeth is a bit hard to reach every part, especially between the teeth or at the back. If you have imperfectly shaped, misaligned or crooked teeth, it becomes even harder to maintain oral hygiene.

Dental Cleaning And Polishing

It’s tough to maintain the healthy condition of your teeth without a dentist’s help.

This is especially hard if certain genetic conditions are behind the irregular positioning of your teeth. While there are solutions for correcting this with cosmetic dental surgeries, consider dental cleaning and polishing first.

Food tends wedge in the tightest spaces and become tartar between your teeth. If left untreated, disastrous oral health results.

Tartar is typically seen in the gum line of tobacco smokers, as well as alcohol consumers.

Flossing and brushing your teeth regularly keeps tartar buildup away for a time. Unfortunately, brushing alone is not enough to completely remove such buildup.

Plaque hardens to form tartar on the gum line when ignored over time. This uneahlthy condition breeds bacteria and allows for stain formation.

Typically, a dentist may use the method of hand scaling to eliminate stubborn stains on your teeth and follow with polishing. The procedure cleans your teeth, and removes any and all trapped particles that lie between the teeth.

If you are looking for dental solutions, particularly if your latest web search was dental cleaning near me, URBN Dental is the answer for you.

When considering dental procedures and surgeries, URBN Dental is a name that many people trust in and around the Houston area. Our patient testimonials speak for themselves.

Why Should I Get Dental Cleaning And Polishing?

There are several convincing reasons to get dental polishing and cleaning. For starters, your bad breath is more than just the food you ate last night. Bad breath can be a persistent issue because of tartar accumulation inside the mouth. Scaling and polishing rids you of this inconvenience.

At URBN Dental, our scaling and polishing procedures are not only pain-free but also very affordable. On top of that, the experience we provide is amazing.

The bottom line is, tartar on your gum line and stains on your teeth need immediate treatment before they become a serious threat to your oral health. We stress oral hygiene vigilance to prevent decay and rotting gums  from untreated tartar buildup and resulting cavities.

After tartar removal, polishing is an important procedure that addresses the roughened surface of teeth. Polishing helps smoothen the area and provides an added layer of strength.

Am I Under Threat?

This is a pretty important question to ask regarding your oral health. A few of our questions will help you answer yours.

Do you smoke tobacco? Do you drink a little too much? Do you eat only on one side of your mouth? Do you fail to brush after all of the above-mentioned activities?

If your answer is yes to any of these questions, you may need to visit a dentist to consult on whether or not you need a dental cleaning and polishing procedure. Luckily, URBN Dental supports same-day walk-ins!

Dental Cleaning And Polishing

One of the most basic dental cleaning procedures is scaling and polishing. Tartar accumulates on the surface of your teeth from different eating habits..

The dentist performs scaling to remove this tartar layer. Polishing quickly follows to give the teeth a bright, shiny and finished look. Polishing also helps remove any stains on the teeth.

Dentists typically use an electric scaling device that efficiently removes hard layers of tartar. In those hard to reach areas, the dentist uses a handheld scaler in place of an electric scaling device.

After clearing all sides and corners of the teeth with scaling, your teeth are polished with a rotating toothbrush. Your professional dentist applies a mixture of fluoride toothpaste with stain removing agents to your teeth using a toothbrush. While the safe chemical agents remove stains, the fluoride provides a strengthening layer to your teeth against cavities and tooth decay post-procedure.

People frequently ask if the procedure is painful. Rest assured that at URBN Dental, our team of dental assistants and dentists are highly qualified with years of experience. They ensure a pain-free, wholesome experience.

With that said, some people may report pain from sensitivity. Your dentist may recommend other procedures to negate this before moving on to scaling and polishing.

How Do I Tell If Dental Cleaning And Polishing Is Imminent?

Change in color of your teeth marks the first symptoms that indicate your need for this procedure. While they don’t need to look be a perfectly sparkly white, they should not be a shade of yellow either.

While only a dentist can accurately determine if you need dental polishing, stains and other marks on your teeth are usually a clear sign. Plaque is another clear sign that you need a dental cleaning and polishing treatment. Tartar, a thick, yellow-brown deposit just below the gum line, is also a major cause for dental recommendation for scaling.

At URBN Dental, you are in the right professional hands. We accept walk-ins as well as booked appointments. Call us today at 281-783-3227 for a positive dental experience that you can recommend to others.

Best dentist office visit ever! Not only are the staff charismatic, they are very knowledgeable too. They took the time to go over my X-rays with me and made sure I understood what everything was, down to the payment options. They did not rush my exam at all. There was no wait time from the moment I walked in the door to the moment my exam was completed. The office itself lives up to its name with the urban decor. It is also very clean. I would recommend anyone to come here if you're looking for competent, patient, and kind dentist and staff!

The staff here is extremely friendly and professional. From the very beginning, the staff greeted me with kindness and respect. My paperwork was filled out within 15 minutes and afterwards, the dentist called me back almost immediately. So the wait time for my first appointment was basically non-existent. I’m not sure if it’s normally like this or if it’s just a coincidence. Regardless, it was very nice to see the staff and dentists in perfect sync with servicing the customers as quickly and efficiently as possible. My first appointment here was primarily because I had a painful sensation on the bottom right of my tooth. It turned out to be a cavity as I expected. The dentist explained the procedure for a filling and I agreed to go through with it on my next appointment. Thank you for an honest experience that resulted in me learning what the problem with my tooth was.

Very satisfied with my recent experience at this dentist. As a first time customer, I walked in with low expectations, since I find this mentality to be effective for softening the blow if it turns out to be a disappointing service.Well, it turned out to be above average service from the staff at the front desk and the dentists themselves. They are all very professional and the dentists working here are patient when it comes to answering questions. I felt fully fulfilled after leaving the dental office. I’ll definireky be back.

I've never been to a more thorough and comprehensive dental appointment as the one at URBN Dental! They went over all of the photos and x-rays with me in detail to help explain all of the issues I had, and it's the first time I fully feel like I understand why I need to floss more consistently. They taught me how to properly floss and brush, and I even got a new electric toothbrush with my appointment. Would definitely recommend.

I was immediately greeted by friendly faces when i came in! Online scheduling and patient paperwork made it so easy to get an appointment with no waiting to go back to the room. Every person of staff from front desk, hygienist to dentist introduced themselves to me and took the time to explain everything they were doing. I’ve never had a dentist actually sit down and explain the biology behind flossing, bone health, nerve health etc. it was great to feel like I was being taken care of by true professionals. They were also very explanatory of exactly what my insurance covered and the cost breakout of all of my services. I would recommend this office to any of my friends and family.

The URBN Dental office is very beautiful! It is modern with natural wood and emerald green elements. I went in for my regular cleaning and exam after looking up 5+ dental offices in the area. I recently moved to uptown and am extremely happy to have found URBN Dental. The Hygienist, Angela, did not only give my advice in regards to my dental hygiene techniques, she educated me which made me more eager to go home and carry out my new routine. Dr. Bridget was very kind, answered all my questions, and gave me a great referral for my wisdom teeth extractions. I will be returning for all of my preventative and general dental needs!

Very friendly staff who put up with my inane sense of humor. The entire team team spoke with me 1:1, including:Dental assistants, hygienist, dentist, and insurance admin (explained everything to me in detail including how my insurance works). They explained my x-rays to me, the effects of flossing correctly / incorrectly. I feel like they gave me the education I didn't get as a child on how to care for my mouth, and why it's important. I was doing good stuff for my oral health-- just not correctly or with a positive attitude.GREAT aftercare package.

Love the location, the dentist AND the staff. Everyone there is awesome. It's rare that I leave a dentist office feeling just as good as when I arrive. I was sad I didn't get to see Snickers, but all in all I had a great experience my first time here. Glad to finally have a new "home" dentist since moving to Texas.

The staff is wonderful, very friendly and informative. I love how they not only take X-rays, but also photos of all your teeth and put them on the big screen. They spent as much time as I needed to go over each area and explain specifics of each tooth. I definitely have a greater understanding of what is going on in there and what I need to do. I also love their space, it has a calming vibe with all kinds of artwork on display. You almost feel like you’re not at the dentist! Thank you all so much, I look forward to seeing you all again! FAQs

Dental cleaning involves an examination of the mouth to spot areas for treatment. The dentist then removes the plaque from the surface of the teeth with a scalar. A toothpaste is then used to remove the remaining plaque from the teeth. The dentist then flosses between the teeth to remove anything left from the previous processes. Lastly is the fluoride treatment in which a gel is placed over the teeth along with a fluoride varnish which will protect your teeth from cavities for several months.

During the teeth cleaning procedure the dentist examines the mouth with a small mirror to identify spots which need cleaning. He then uses a scalar to scrape off the plaque buildup on the surface of the teeth. To remove the remaining plaque which was not removed by the scalar, the dentist then uses a gritty toothpaste and then later a fluoride varnish over the teeth to protect them. These are some of the treatments a dentist does during tooth cleaning.

Although teeth scaling can be good for your oral hygiene, it can have some disadvantages. Sone of these includes the possibility of tooth enamel being removed. Even though the enamel is the hardest part of the body, it can be removed from the areas that have been softened. This can lead to tooth sensitivity from hot or cold and pressure from biting. Another disadvantage of scaling is gum recession which can be noticed in advanced cases.

The tooth scaling cost depends on various factors which include the location of the dentist and the experience of the dentist. The cost of teeth scaling in south Delhi ranges between 1000-1500Rs. However, if you plan on getting the teeth cleaning done in a dental college, then it will cost you around 50 to a few hundred rupees. This process involves the removal of plaque from the teeth to prevent future gum diseases and tooth decay.

Along with the advantages of scaling, there are also disadvantages to this as well. Once you are getting your scaling done and the dentist removes plaque from below the gumline, then there may be some bleeding during the process. This can also cause sensitivity from hot or cold in the teeth and gums. Another disadvantage can be that some of the tooth enamel can be removed during the procedure. This only happens from the areas of the teeth that have become soft.

Dental plaque is a mass of bacterium that builds up on the surface of the teeth on the inside, outside and between the teeth or below the gumline. The plaque can be identified as a pale yellowish deposit on the teeth. If left unremoved the plaque can turn into tartar which can be harder to remove and would require a dentist to remove it. To prevent the buildup one can do regular brushing and flossing to maintain good oral hygiene.

Teeth whitening can be affected due to numerous factors such as poor oral hygiene which includes irregular brushing and flossing. This causes a buildup of plaque on the surface of the teeth. The plaque causes the tooth enamel to be worn out. Teeth whitening can also be affected whether you're a smoker or not, intake of sugary items or sodas.

Yellow teeth can be whitened in many ways some includes regular brushing routine which means brushing and flossing twice a day, especially after a meal. You can also use toothpaste with fruit enzymes, activated charcoal, and baking soda. Whitening products with hydrogen peroxide can also help to whiten your teeth. Some of these products include whitening strips and gel that can be applied on the teeth. Another option that can help with teeth whitening is apple cider vinegar.

Smoking causes teeth to become stained with a brown-yellow color. But these stains are not permanent as they can be removed. Some of the ways to whiten teeth can be to use whitening toothpaste as they contain chemicals to dissolve the teeth; it is necessary that you brush twice a day for quicker results. Smokers can also use mouthwashes that contain hydrogen peroxide. You can also opt for a dentist to clean, polish and bleach the teeth to help remove the stains.

Sensitive teeth cause a toothache in one or more teeth due to hot or cold. This is due to the removal of tooth enamel. If the gum recedes, the tooth can become sensitive. Some of the other reasons for teeth sensitivity are rigorous brushing or using a brush with hard bristles which may wear down the enamel. Clenching or grinding your teeth often can also lead to the removal of the enamel. This can also be caused by certain dental procedures such as scaling.

The dentist cleans the teeth by first doing scaling which involves the removal of plaque from the teeth and gums — followed by some polishing on the teeth which helps to smoothen the surface of the teeth to prevent further plaque buildup. This treatment helps to improve oral hygiene and prevent future gum diseases.

Teeth can be whitened with the use of many whitening products. Some of these products include whitening gels or whitening trays that contain hydrogen peroxide — these need to behold against the teeth to produce the whitening effect. Whitening toothpaste will help to remove the plaque and stains from the teeth which will also help to whiten the teeth as this will act as a polishing agent. Other dental cleanings and polishing also whiten the teeth which again help to remove the plaque like the other home remedies.

After undergoing dental treatment, it is normal to feel sensitivity in the teeth. Some of the causes are due to the uses of certain tools during the procedure or due to receding gums by the removal of tartar. To treat sensitive teeth after a dental cleaning is to use a soft brush while brushing and avoid flossing for a day or two. You can also use sensitivity toothpaste and avoid food and beverages that can be sensitive for your teeth.

Some home remedies can be used to remove the gutka stains from the teeth, which can include rubbing the teeth with an orange peel or applying salt with a toothbrush. Another home remedy you can use is to apply a mixture of baking soda and water on the teeth and then rinse it. If you want to get the stains removed by a dentist, then go for a deep cleaning treatment.

Black stains on the surface of the teeth are usually caused by excessive intake of coffee, tea or wine. Another cause can be of tobacco smoking and having poor oral hygiene due to irregular brushing and flossing. Aging can be another factor in black spots to occurring. To get rid of black spots you can try by applying a mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide or whitening paste with strawberries, baking soda, and salt.

Stains between the teeth cannot be removed by brushing, so it's best if you use dental floss with embedded silica. The appropriate mechanism would be to floss back and forth. However, avoid flossing under the gum but only in the stained areas of the teeth. You can use a mixture of baking soda and water to use as an abrasive while flossing. It is not necessary to do it regularly, only till the stains are removed.

Stained teeth can be removed with multiple home remedies such as applying baking soda, activated charcoal, apple cider vinegar or a paste including strawberries, salt, and baking soda onto the teeth. Other methods can be the use of whitening products such as mouthwashes with hydrogen peroxide or whitening gels and trays that can be held against the teeth to produce the whitening effect. You can also go to the dentist for a whitening treatment which involves scaling, fluoride treatment and expert flossing.

It is safe to use machines during the tooth polishing procedure if the dentist is experienced in this practice. Polishing is usually done after the scaling to smooth the surface of the tooth to prevent further buildup of plaque and prevent gum recession and gum problems. There are disadvantages to polishing if done correctly, so it's important the dental specialist knows what he's doing.

Both of these procedures can cause tooth enamel to be removed. In case of scaling, tooth enamel can be removed from the areas of the teeth that are already softened. While polishing can also remove enamel while rubbing the tooth surface. So it's best is to get these treatments done with a several months gap and by maintaining healthy hygiene, you won't need to go for scaling in the first place.

If your teeth have a buildup of tartar in the teeth pockets, then it's necessary that you go to the dentist for a deep scaling and polishing treatment. In this process, the dentist uses a scalar to clean deep in the gums to remove tartar or plaque. This is good for the teeth because it helps to prevent tooth decay and future gum diseases. With polishing the surface of the teeth becomes smooth to stop any plaque buildup.

Deep cleaning is necessary when there is tartar buildup below the gumline and if not removed can cause gum diseases. To remove tartar, you need the help of a dentist to do a deep cleaning. In this process, the dentist scrapes off the tartar from the teeth and gum pockets. This helps to prevent any further buildup of plaque and gum diseases. So yes it is good if you get a deep cleaning done every 6 months.

Yes, it is possible that your tooth enamel can be eroded by scraping the teeth. Even though the enamel is the hardest part of the body, scraping can remove it from areas where it is already softened. This can expose the dentin thus causing sensitivity in the teeth from hot or cold. However, erosion of the enamel can also be due to clenching and grinding of the teeth, by consuming sodas or using a hard bristle brush during brushing.

Scaling and polishing don't severely harm teeth. It is a process for removing tartar or plaque from the teeth so while scraping it off there is a possibility of minor bleeding due to the use of certain tools, but it's just temporary. This type of cleaning can also cause sensitivity in the teeth from hot or cold which is also temporary and can be treated with the use of sensitivity toothpaste. The inflamed gums will also get normal after the treatment.

A tooth loosening is due to gum or teeth problems and can be strengthened with the help of dental treatments. Scaling is used to remove the plaque from the teeth and below the gum line which can later feel as if the tooth is loose, but this will get better as soon as the gum heals and goes back into position thus strengthening the teeth. This cleaning treatment will also help to maintain good dental health thus strengthening the teeth.

Yes, tooth whitening remedies and dental treatments can help to remove the plaque from the teeth. For example, you use a whitening toothpaste to whiten teeth and to apply if you use a toothbrush which will in return help to remove the plaque as well as applying the toothpaste. However certain whitening products cannot remove plaque as they can only work once the plaque has been removed. Same goes for a dental whitening procedure; the plaque needs to be removed before the tooth can be bleached so this means that the plaque is removed before the whitening treatment can begin, and it cannot be removed by the whitening treatment.

No, all dental procedures are done to make teeth strong by improving oral hygiene not make teeth weak. Scaling helps to remove tartar or plaque from the surface of the teeth which ultimately improves oral hygiene and prevent tooth decay and other gum diseases whereas polishing helps to smooth the tooth surface to prevent plaque buildup leading to clean teeth. If you're referring to sensitivity after the process, then it can be treated with sensitivity toothpaste.

Scaling is a process in which plaque or tartar is removed with the help of a scalar. There is also a need to go deeper below the gumline to remove the plaque fully from the gums. Now, this can be an uncomfortable and painful method, so the dentist uses local anesthesia to do the scaling. The teeth will, later on, feel sensitive to hot or cold and pressure from biting and chewing. This will, however, be temporary, so it's nothing to worry about.

You can have bad breath due to several reasons such as gum diseases, the buildup of plaque or tartar, cavities, etc. This can be solved by teeth cleaning which includes regular brushing of the teeth. However, if it's still not affecting the breath, then you can get a cleaning treatment done by the dentist. This type of cleaning will include scaling and polishing or with the use of antibiotics.

Yes, dental health can be improved by regular dental cleaning. Some of the methods of cleaning you can do are regular brushing and flossing especially after a meal and not smoking or consuming a lot of coffee, tea or wine. You can also use an electronic toothbrush to remove more plaque from the teeth. It is also important that you get your teeth cleaned by the dentist every 6 months to maintain good oral hygiene. This will prevent any future cavities and gum diseases.

Although scaling needs to be done every 6 months, repeated scaling depends on several factors such as the type of saliva, the buildup of tartar which can form due to not brushing regularly or due to pregnancy or certain drugs. If the buildup is more frequent then repeated scaling should be done. However, getting repeated scaling done can damage your teeth by more removal of enamel in less than 6 months; otherwise, no other damages can occur.

Tooth scaling is the process in which the dentist uses a scalar to remove the plaque from the teeth manually. However, during scraping, there is a chance that the enamel layer can be removed from some areas where the enamel is already soft. This can expose the dentin and lead to sensitivity in the teeth before the treatment. But this will be temporary and can be treated by using a sensitivity toothpaste.

Both tooth powders and toothpaste is used to clean the teeth. However, tooth powders are proven to be more effective than toothpaste as they are made of natural and organic ingredients. It's also not toxic as it does not contain fluoride. Toothpaste, on the other hand, contains fluorides that can be toxic if swallowed but it also is convenient and helps to polish the teeth.

Tooth shaving does not damage your teeth if your tooth has a thicker enamel layer for example in molars. After this procedure, it is important that you floss your teeth to maintain good oral hygiene. The patient also needs to use fluoride treatments daily to remineralize the tooth enamel.  After tooth shaving, the patient should visit the dentist every 6 months.

Firm brushes with hard bristles can have some negative impacts on the teeth. With the use of firm brushes, the tooth enamel can wear off leading to sensitive teeth. So it's best if a soft brush is used instead as its more flexible and able to reach every corner of the teeth and remove the plaque.

Yes, there are some side effects from scaling; some include sore gums and sensitivity due to the removal of plaque from the surface of the teeth. However, this is not a big problem as this feeling will fade away within a few weeks.
